In January, I received an email from journalist, Li Cohen asking to interview me for an article she was writing about black owned businesses in NYC. Excited and super bewildered - like how did she find MY business of all the black own businesses in NYC - I agreed to a phone interview. At first I was a little leery, considering I get spam emails daily. I immediately reached out to Lisa (my Chief Brand Officer) to confirm that Li Cohen was in fact an actual journalist with AM New York and it turned out she is!!
With all that has been happening with EJCo., an interview was not only super exciting for me but it gave me the opportunity to bring more exposure to my brand. The article was featured on AM New York's website the following morning. Unable to contain my excitement - I mean who could - I posted the link to the article on my social media accounts. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL... Yup there is more... The following week, while making a run to the Salvation Army to thrift a few items for my runway show (we'll talk about that in another post) - Li reached out to inform me that the article actually made it to print and we made the FRONT PAGE... FRONT PAGE OF THE NEWSPAPER!!!!!! At that moment, I don't think there are words that could describe how I felt... so from there I was on the hunt to find the print version...
Hunting for this newspaper was nerve wracking... on any other given day, traveling to and from work, I see the newspaper on the bus, in the train stations - EVERYWHERE but this day no sign of an AMNY newspaper in sight... UNTIL I get on the "J" train and beneath this man's seat was a newspaper... saying a lil prayer - I reached down below, opened the cover and saw my face - FRONT PAGE... MY FACE!!!!!!! I smiled, shed a few tears and continued to bask in the glory of my success...
